Alexandra Tracey, DVM, DACVS-LA

AKT shock.jpg

Dr. Alexandra Tracey, one of only a handful of practicing board certified large animal surgeons (DACVS-LA) in South Carolina, has been dedicated to horses since her first riding lesson many years ago. She has competed in eventing, dressage, western pleasure, barrel racing, and polo over her years as a horsewoman.

Veterinary medicine and surgery are more than a job or a career for Dr. Tracey... They are a calling and she commits much of her life to the complete care and health of her patients. She has a special passion for surgery and sports medicine but is equally comfortable managing emergencies and medical cases.

After graduating from veterinary school at Kansas State University in 2008, Dr. Tracey completed an internship at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, KY. Following her time in Kentucky, Dr. Tracey moved to Iowa to complete a residency in Equine Surgery. After an additional year as the emergency surgeon for Iowa State University, Dr. Tracey moved south to enjoy warmer weather and rejoin the horse communities of her youth.

When she gets time away from the hospital, Dr. Tracey enjoys a good book and a great glass of wine, or a sun soaked day on Lake Hartwell. She also owns a thoroughbred mare, May (who lives at the hospital as a blood donor and companion and doesn’t get nearly as much work or attention as she needs!). Dr. Tracey enjoys camping and travelling with her husband and any time she can get with her family!

Mary Copeland Paramore, DVM, CVA

Dr. Mary Paramore graduated from the University of South Carolina, with a bachelors in Science and a minor in business, in 2018. She then went on to attend North Carolina State College of Veterinary Medicine to earn her DVM in 2022. While in veterinary school she also studied to become a Veterinary Acupuncturist at Chi University. Following graduation, Dr. Paramore completed an internship at Woodside Equine Hospital in Ashland, Virginia. She is excited to be back in South Carolina where she is close to her family, and enjoying the warmer weather. Dr. Paramore has a passion for emergency cases, sports medicine, and working with owners to accomplish the best possible preventative care for each patient.

Dr. Paramore is originally from Charlotte, North Carolina. She first began horseback riding at the age of three and started showing in hunters as soon as she was old enough. Later she enjoyed competing in the jumpers with her horse, Lollipop. In her free time, Dr. Paramore enjoys riding, hiking, biking, and spending time with her two small dogs!

Allison Stapel, DVM

Veterinary Intern

Dr. Allison Stapel is new to the south and is the veterinary intern at Palmetto Equine. She is originally from New Jersey and completed her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) at Tufts University in Massachusetts. She moved to South Carolina with her boyfriend and pet snake, Macaroni (pictured).

Her mother is a professional dressage trainer, so she grew up with a love for horses that she hasn’t been able to shake. She is particularly fond of colic and lameness cases but takes great joy in caring for all her patients.

In her spare time, she enjoys being outdoors (i.e. hiking, kayaking) and spending time with loved ones. Occasionally you can find her with a good book or a crochet hook. She is so excited to be working with the wonderful team at Palmetto Equine to continue to expand her knowledge and experience with equine medicine and provide the best possible care for the equids in this area. Feel free to say hi if you see her at the clinic!

Jessica Langston, Hospital Operations Manager

Jessica started riding on a mounted drill team at a young age. That drill team became a multiple southeastern regional championship team and a multiple state champion team. When not performing with the drill team, she also showed in western events and barrel racing. She completed a Bachelors of Science in Animal Science with an Equine Science and Management emphasis at the University of Georgia. During this time, she worked on a feed research trial at UGA’s stallion station that breeds American Quarter Horses. Since graduating, she has worked at multiple warmblood and P.R.E. breeding farms before coming to join the Palmetto Equine team! She loves working in breeding and has a passion for Quarter Horse bloodlines. She also has a strong background in sports medicine and lameness after years of experience with her own horses. She competes in barrel racing with her mare Rayne and helps her parents manage the farm at home when she is not working.

Most days you will find Nancy at our front desk working hard to keep the ship sailing in the right direction! She manages all the client care for Palmetto Equine, including scheduling for both doctors, following up on cases, triage of phone calls and emergencies, and getting clients checked in and out of the hospital. When she is not keeping us all in line, Nancy enjoys time with her 2 horses and her beautiful dog Piper.
